San Pedro de Timote is one of the most important estancias in Uruguay. It was named Historical National Monument in 1997 taking into consideration its architecture, garden and field design, natural environment and its historical value.
Founded in 1854 by Pedro José Jackson, its fields were part of the ancient Jesuit estancia. As from 1901, the estancia was managed by Dr. Alejandro Gallinal and in 1940 it started being under the direction of his son, Don Alberto Gallinal, who was a remarkable Uruguayan philanthropist, creator of the Mevir project and founder of several schools among other important contributions that reflect his love for his country.
In 1997 the estancia was integrally redesigned and conditioned to offer the greatest comfort as a Country Hotel, without affecting its identity and style and respecting Don Alberto’s motto: “There is still a lot to be done”. In this way, we have been able to preserve its historical value and open its doors to the public.
